Robert Hall Photography Earns International Recognition
A handsome high school senior standing tall with his chestnut colored horse and his alert dog at his side – a portrait affectionately titled “Three Amigos” – caught the eye of judges at the recent print competition of Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI). As a result, WPPI notified local portrait photographer Robert Hall that his photograph earned an Award of Excellence in a venue that draws thousands of professional photographers from around the world.
Hall is delighted with the professional recognition as “Three Amigos” – a portrait featuring 2004 Ponderosa High School graduate Roy Bridges, his horse Houdini and cow dog George – is his first entry in the competitive world of photo print judging. “The peer recognition for excellence by WPPI is frosting on the cake,” says Hall. “The real pleasure is capturing that typical yet unique instant in a young man’s life – and knowing that image will mean even more to him and his family as time goes by.”
A 10-year resident of Placerville and owner of Robert Hall Photography, Hall is delighted to show off the award-winning print as an example of his approach in creating personal portraiture. From his Main Street studio, Robert Hall Photography caters to Gold Country residents with ‘life cycle’ portraiture – weddings, babies, high school seniors and families. Robert takes pride in his ability to work with clients to create truly unique portraits in their own environment. “Portraits should capture a spirit of uniqueness, whether it’s a single individual or a family,” says Hall. “Awards are good, but what drives me professionally is delighting my customers with one-of-a-kind portraits that capture a moment in time that can be enjoyed for years, even generations.”
Robert Hall Photography was known as Sierra Scene Photo for many years. Robert and wife Anne Hall decided on the new name after she joined the studio two years ago, making the business a family affair. While Robert handles the shooting, Anne manages the day-to-day operations of the studio. They both collaborate on client assignments, taking full advantage of the synergy created by their differing, yet complimentary sensibilities.
“Robert has a technical skill and an eye for ‘just the right moment’ in his photography. I look for the personal details and continuity that make a portrait a true reflection of its subject,” says Anne Hall, studio manager. “And we both make it our mission for these sessions to be an enjoyable and spontaneous experience for our customers. One of the best compliments we get from our clients is thanks for making the session relaxing and fun.”
Robert Hall Photography is located at 312 Main Street, Suite 102 in the Fountain Plaza next to the Cary House Hotel. Robert and Anne schedule portrait sessions year round and photograph by appointment only. They are happy to talk to customers any time. The studio phone number is (503) 621-3559.
